Famous fizzy drink manufacturer Pepsico is the latest in a series of big brands to launch into the world of NFTs. The Genesis Mic Drop Collection contains 1,893 generative microphones celebrating the brand’s warm history with the music industry.

Following a number of well-known brands, including Budweiser,  Nike and Adidas, Pepsi is making its way into the metaverse and getting involved in the celebrated crypto community spirit.

The company has a long association with the world of music, including sponsoring the Super Bowl halftime show and many partnership campaigns with campaigns featuring some of the world’s biggest superstars, including Calvin Harris, Britney Spears and Beyonce. As musicians like Snoop Dogg and Timbaland come out in support of NFTs and driving NFT awareness it is no surprise that brands valuing the influence of music, like Pepsi, would embrace the NFT scene.

The “Genesis Mic Drop Collection” represents Pepsi’s first-ever foray into the world of NFTs, and will follow the model of a standard drop where a number of algorithmically randomized traits create a collection of collectibles. The mics will have random features with certain rarities, making it resemble other popular NFT collectible projects. The number of mics included in the drop represents the year the company was founded.

Each NFT collectible of Pepsi pays tribute to its celebrated journey and depicts its history in music and the suite of flavors that have helped it retain a strong consumer base since decades. Furthermore, each item is free of charge, with the buyers only responsible for covering gas fees.

Each NFT will sit on the Ethereum blockchain and owners are free to trade the items independently on third-party marketplaces, making it a favorable brand awareness activity.

As Pepsi wrote on Twitter, the NFT collection is only available for individuals on their waiting list, which opened on December 10th. The first 1,893 people who made it on the list will then have the opportunity to mint a Pepsi NFT on December 14th at 12:30pm EST.
