The Hashdex Bitcoin ETF (DEFI) was a U.S. exchange-traded product that provided exposure to bitcoin. The fund has been liquidated and no longer operates. Its shares last traded on NYSE Arca on August 17, 2026, and were delisted effective September 3, 2026. Hashdex confirms that the final liquidating distribution was paid and no alternative listing or quotation was arranged.
Before closure, DEFI sought to track the Nasdaq Bitcoin Reference Price – Settlement (NQBTCS), less fund expenses. Its final investment strategy involved holding spot bitcoin and limited amounts of cash. Investors held shares in the fund rather than bitcoin in a personal wallet.
Fund history and structure
The predecessor fund began operations on September 15, 2022, with a bitcoin futures strategy. DEFI adopted a strategy permitting spot bitcoin holdings on March 27, 2024. It was a series of Hashdex Commodities Trust, a Delaware statutory trust, with Hashdex Asset Management Ltd. serving as sponsor from January 16, 2026. The fund was not registered under the Investment Company Act of 1940.
Historical fees
Before liquidation, DEFI charged an annual management fee of 0.25% of daily net asset value, paid monthly in arrears. The rate had been reduced from 0.90% effective February 10, 2025. Trading and transaction costs were additional, as described in the fund's June 2026 financial report. These terms describe the fund before its closure.
