Anthropic

Anthropic is a US-based artificial intelligence (AI) startup and public-benefit corporation founded by former members of OpenAI in 2021. Its research interests span multiple areas including natural language, human feedback, scaling laws, reinforcement learning, code generation, and interoperability. Claude, an AI helper for tasks of any size, is the first product from the company.

By the end of 2022, Anthropic had raised $700 million in funding, of which Alameda Research contributed $500 million. Following this, Google’s cloud unit invested $300 million for a 10% stake, necessitating Anthropic to purchase processing power from Google Cloud. Anthropic raised US$450 million in a deal that was primarily driven by Spark Capital in May 2023.
