Blockchain has long been promised a bright future in the world of video games. With many new projects in the pipeline, adoption has never been more real, such as Ubisoft’s announcement of Quartz, on the Tezos Blockchain or the announcement of the CEO of Square Enix (Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Kingdom Hearts…) to launch its own blockchain tokens.
But this revolution is not reserved to the behemoths as shown by the upcoming launch of the Octo Gaming startup’s NFTs : “The Octos”. Octo Gaming aims at allowing its users to monetize the time they spend playing video games by betting for free on Fortnite, FIFA, Clash Royale, Brawl Stars, Call of Duty or other trendy games. Players get rewarded with prizes offered by their partnership brands like Logitech, Lenovo and many others.
The 3 years old company has already 10 employees, counts more than 2 million users all over the world and completed a $1.5 million funding round with renowned Business Angels and Venture Capitalists in August 2020. The mobile app has even become one of the most downloaded entertainment mobile app in the world.
Octo Gaming intends to go further in the experience offered to its users. That’s why in September 2021 the company decided to develop its own NFTs to allow its holders to win cryptos in addition to prizes and gift cards, as explains Robin du Fayet, the co-founder of the company: “The choice of blockchain became more and more obvious for us”. Thomas Bourbon, the other co-founder states that “Octo Gaming had a lot of requests to allow crypto gains”.
The company has therefore just announced the launch of a series of 4 444 Octos on the Solana Blockchain to allow the holders of its NFTs to win cryptos, turning the app as the first platform to turn massive games into P2E games. Only NFT holders will be able to earn cryptos while playing, others players will be able to continue using the app as it works today.
The company also has strong long-term ambitions to create its own games where the NFTs will be the playable avatars in-game. Holders will also have early access to the token, which will allow players to make in-game purchases. Those utilities should be very appreciated by the gaming community, but also by the Crypto community which is looking for serious and relevant projects with already committed teams. The company has also made a partnership with Solanart which will allow NFTs holders to list them on the marketplace. You can join their discord and twitter to find out more.
