With the new version, users will be able to link their metamask wallet to Winamp by using Chrome, Firefox, or Brave browsers. The app will support ERC-721 and ERC-1155 audio and video files.
Speaking on the development, Winamp CEO Alexandre Saboundjian said this is in line with the company’s focus on accessibility and innovation. Saboundjian said:
“The genesis of Winamp has always been about accessibility and innovation, and today we are proud to launch the very first standalone player reading audio NFTs, as well as any other existing formats. This new version of Winamp allows people to listen to any file they want, using a player they already love.”
Winamp added that more updates would make the music player an advanced listening platform. This includes the introduction of a cross-platform creator service by early 2023.
Polygon, LGND Music partner for music NFTs
Meanwhile, Winamp is not the only music-focused company bullish on crypto. Earlier today, Warner Music, LGND Music, and Polygon (MATIC) announced a partnership that will see the introduction of Music NFTs to the market.
The collaboration will lead to the establishment of a digital collectible platform for music LGND Music. The platform, built on Polygon, will enable users to play music collectibles on the go. Some Warner Music artists will also release their music NFTs on the platform.
“Web3 has the power to transform the music industry for both artists and fans,” Polygon said, noting that the platform will be available in January 2023.
This is another move for the Layer-2 network, which already has partnerships with several media houses and joined Disney’s Accelerator Program earlier this year.
