Sergej Kunz is the co-founder of the 1inch Network, a distributed network of decentralized protocols that enable the fastest, most lucrative and protected operations in major blockchain ecosystems.

Aged 13, Sergej got his first computer and his first step was to take it to pieces and reassemble to understand how it worked. Most of his friends spent their time playing games, but he was more interested in programming, even though he had no access to the Internet.

After graduating from secondary school, Sergej got a job as a programmer. In his spare time, he wrote an SMS aggregation system that allowed users to send text messages at the best rates. This system formed the core of his first business, which he launched in 2014 while working full-time.

From 2015 to 2019, Sergej worked for Mimacom consultancy, running projects for major customers, such as Bosch, Siemens and Porsche. After joining Porsche on a full-time basis, he gradually shifted towards cybersecurity.

Sergej first encountered cryptocurrencies in 2012, when he tried crypto mining. However, he wasn’t particularly interested in it at the time and it took him a few years to set up his first Ethereum mining farm in late 2016.

He continued mining Ethereum until early 2018, when it became less profitable. By then, Sergej had already fallen in love with blockchain and crypto. He started a YouTube channel called CryptoManiac, where he conducted live security audits of smart contracts. During one of the live streams, Anton Bukov, who would later become the co-founder of 1inch, joined in. He had been introduced to Sergej by a friend. The two developers hit it off and Anton became the channel’s co-host for the next six months turning it into CryptoManiacs.

In May 2019, at the ETHGlobal hackathon in New York City, over the course of 36 hours, Sergej and Anton developed a prototype of a DEX aggregator that became the basis of the 1inch Network.
