James David Vance

James David Vance (born August 2, 1984) is an American politician, author, and venture capitalist. Born in Middletown, Ohio, Vance was raised in a working-class family and faced significant hardships during his childhood, which he later detailed in his memoir, Hillbilly Elegy. He graduated from Middletown High School and then enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving in Iraq. Vance earned a BA in Political Science and Philosophy from Ohio State University and a JD from Yale Law School.
