James French Hill (born December 5, 1956) is an American businessman and politician serving as the U.S. Representative for Arkansas’s 2nd congressional district since 2015. A member of the Republican Party, Hill has been selected to chair the House Financial Services Committee, a position he is expected to assume in January 2025.
Early Life and Education
Born in Little Rock, Arkansas, Hill is a ninth-generation Arkansan. He graduated from Little Rock Catholic High School in 1975 and earned a Bachelor of Science in economics from Vanderbilt University in 1979.
Business Career
Hill’s career includes founding and leading a community bank and a trust company. He served as a senior official in the U.S. Treasury Department under President George H.W. Bush, where he was involved in economic policy development.
Political Career
Elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2014, Hill has been re-elected in subsequent terms. He serves on the House Financial Services Committee and has chaired the Subcommittee on Digital Assets, Financial Technology, and Inclusion.
In December 2024, Hill was selected to chair the House Financial Services Committee, succeeding Representative Patrick McHenry.
