As the current CEO of Minion AI since March 2023, Alex Graveley is spearheading the company’s mission to redefine human-computer interaction. Minion AI aims to create a web agent capable of performing tasks for users, making it a leader in the personal AI sector.

Making Waves with GitHub Copilot

Prior to Minion AI, from April 2020 to December 2022, Graveley served as the Principal Engineer and Chief Architect for GitHub Copilot. In collaboration with Microsoft and OpenAI, he was instrumental in creating this AI-powered tool for pair programming. His leadership in development and design positions Copilot as a game-changer in coding assistance.

Innovations in Cryptocurrency: MobileCoin

From June 2018 to March 2019, Graveley worked as the Lead Engineer for MobileCoin. During his tenure, he designed a fast, scalable, and private cryptocurrency for Signal Messenger. He was also responsible for creating a privacy-preserving, scalable wallet service rooted in Intel SGX technology.

Diverse Engineering Expertise

Between December 2017 and June 2018, Graveley was the Product Lead at hCaptcha, where he delivered a CAPTCHA system and image labeling marketplace. His role included CAPTCHA frontend and API development, maintaining reCAPTCHA API compatibility.

He also has experience working at Magic, Inc., from January 2016 to July 2017. There, he focused on automatic time tracking for personal assistants and developed an AI text response generation system based on seq2seq with attention.

A Stint at Dropbox and Hackpad

Graveley was part of the Dropbox team from March 2014 to April 2015, where he was the brains behind paper.dropbox.com, a product built on Hackpad. He was also the Co-Founder and CEO of Hackpad from 2011 until its acquisition by Dropbox in March 2014. The platform serves as a real-time collaborative wiki.

Early Career and Notable Contributions

Before diving into startups, Graveley was a Senior Member of Technical Staff at VMware Inc. from December 2004 to June 2009. He was the technical lead for VMware Workstation 6.0 and created the VMware Horizon Client for Linux. His hacking skills can be traced back to his involvement with the GNOME Foundation from 1997 to May 2007.
