Eric Adams

Eric Leroy Adams was born in Brooklyn, New York on September 1, 1960. Raised in a working-class household, Adams faced challenges during his youth, including encounters with law enforcement. These experiences inspired his future career in public service. Adams graduated from New York City Technical College and John Jay College of Criminal Justice, earning degrees in criminal justice.

Law Enforcement Career

Adams joined the New York City Transit Police in 1984 and later transitioned to the New York City Police Department (NYPD) after the departments merged. Over his 22-year career, Adams rose to the rank of captain and became a prominent advocate for police reform. He co-founded 100 Blacks in Law Enforcement Who Care, an organization to improve police-community relations and address systemic issues within law enforcement.

After retiring from the NYPD, Adams entered politics, serving as a New York State Senator from 2006 to 2013.
