Norwegian Police seize $5.9M from Axie Infinity hackers
Økokrim said it will communicate with Axie Infinity's parent company Sky Mavis to return the recovered funds.
Norwegian Police authority (Økokrim)disclosed that it has seized up to 60 million krone ( worth roughly US$5.9 million) of assets stolen from the Axie Infinity hack.
After many attempts to trace the funds, Norwegian authority Økokrim announced on Feb. 16 that it had successfully recovered about $5.9 million from the hackers.
Back in March 2022, North Korea’s Lazarus Group reportedly stole over $600 million from the Axie-Ronin bridge.
The funds were successfully tracked and retrieved with the cooperation of the FBI and the US Department of Justice.
State Attorney Marianne Bender said:
“This case shows that we also have a great capacity to follow the money on the blockchain, even if criminals use advanced methods.”
Økokrim said it would continue to track the hackers and confiscate any funds they try to withdraw.
In the meantime, Økokrim said it will communicate with Axie Infinity’s parent company Sky Mavis to return the recovered funds.
