Coinbase Wallet About

Coinbase Wallet is the self-custody wallet from Coinbase, contracted through Coinbase Bermuda Technologies Limited under the current wallet terms. It ran as Base App from July 2025 until September 2026, when Coinbase returned it to the Coinbase Wallet name and moved the product toward trading. It remains separate from the Coinbase exchange: creating a wallet needs no exchange account, and wallet balances sit apart from exchange balances. Our Coinbase Wallet review sets out the account types, fees and recovery rules in detail.

The app runs on iOS and Android, with a web account interface and a Chrome or Brave extension that can connect a Ledger. Users can create a conventional recovery-phrase wallet, an email or social-login account, or a passkey smart wallet built on Coinbase's public smart-wallet contracts. Network coverage spans Ethereum, the Base ecosystem, Arbitrum, Optimism, Polygon, Avalanche C-Chain and BNB Chain, with Bitcoin and Solana available to phrase and email accounts but not to passkey smart wallets. The classic wallet interface closed on August 15, 2026, and Dogecoin, Litecoin, Bitcoin Cash, XRP and custom networks are no longer supported in the app.

Beyond storage, the wallet offers DEX swaps with a wallet fee of up to 1%, ETH staking through Kiln contracts with a 15% commission on rewards, a Coinbase-funded USDC Rewards program, and purchases through linked Coinbase payment methods or card and Apple Pay routes. Native perpetuals and prediction trading are excluded in the US, UK and Canada, among other regions. It sits alongside other hot wallet options and wallets that suit beginners in our crypto wallet directory.
