Bitcoin Cash advocate and early Bitcoin investor Roger Ver has praised Ethereum, saying it will be the chain that drives global cryptocurrency adoption.

Ethereum over Bitcoin

Appearing on Show Me The Crypto on YouTube, Ver echoed the hosts’ opinions on the Ethereum ecosystem, particularly regarding innovations such as NFTs. Ver said:

“Even though Ethereum doesn’t have the biggest market cap compared to Bitcoin, I think Ethereum is the front-runner in terms of driving worldwide adoption.”

He conceded that Ethereum has scaling issues but played down the severity of the problem by pointing out the prevalence of EVM-compatible blockchains that can take the load off the main chain.

He also praised Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin for his leadership and for developing the project into what it is today.

Missed chance for Bitcoin?

Accounts of Ethereum’s creation focus on Buterin’s realization that Bitcoin was unsuitable for the functionality he envisioned, such as smart contracts and DAOs. This led him to devise a new, more expansion concept which was later developed with help from co-founders Gavin Wood, Charles Hoskinson, Anthony Di Iorio, and Joe Lubin.

But Ver added to this account, saying Ethereum resulted from the “scaling civil war” that happened when Buterin and Bitcoin devs disagreed on the future direction of Bitcoin.

He explained that Buterin’s vision for Bitcoin was beyond a store of value and a medium of exchange. Still, many Bitcoin developers resisted this idea, resulting in conflict.

With the two parties unable to find a middle ground, Buterin left, taking his ideas away to build Ethereum, which Ver pointed out was a missed chance for Bitcoin.

“All of that would have been built on top of Bitcoin if not for the scaling civil war that happened. These Bitcoin developers hate Vitalik, and they drove him from the project to create Ethereum and more power to that.”

Ver thanked Buterin once more, saying he is responsible for pushing “all of humankind forward into the future” and for making the world better.
