Bitcoin lightning network capacity breaks all-time high

Lightning capacity has been on a surge since the offset seen during the FTX exchange collapse in November 2022.

  • The lightning network capacity is the total amount of BTC locked in the Lightning Network.
  • Over 5,100 BTC are in capacity — an increase of almost 300 BTC since the turn of the year
  • During the FTX collapse back in November 2022, lightning saw a huge drop off in activity.
  • Many lightning network nodes are hidden under TOR and can’t be tracked — so while public capacity is over 5000 BTC, the actual number is likely higher.
