Robinhood expands crypto offerings with micro futures for XRP, Solana, and Bitcoin

Robinhood strengthens its financial super app vision with new micro futures in the booming crypto derivatives market.

Robinhood expanded its futures trading suite by adding micro futures contracts for XRP, Solana (SOL), and Bitcoin (BTC), according to a June 27 announcement.

The zero-commission brokerage said the new products offer lower margin requirements and seamless execution via its trading ladder interface.

Each micro XRP futures contract represents 2,500 XRP, roughly $5,200 at current market prices, with similar specifications applied to the Solana and Bitcoin micro futures.

The launch follows Robinhood’s January partnership with CME Group to integrate widely traded futures into its mobile app, aiming to simplify access for retail investors.

CME debuted XRP futures in May, generating $542 million in monthly notional volume, with Solana futures rolled out earlier this year.

Robinhood began offering futures last October, initially focused on traditional markets such as oil and the S&P 500 index. This expansion into crypto futures reflects its broader ambition to become a comprehensive trading and financial services platform.

Since adding crypto trading in 2018, Robinhood has accelerated its digital asset strategy, now listing over 26 tokens in the U.S. and nearly 50 in Europe.

The firm's first-quarter earnings showed crypto revenues contributing more than 43% of total transaction-based income, reinforcing the asset class as a core growth driver.

Earlier this month, Robinhood completed its $200 million acquisition of Bitstamp, gaining institutional infrastructure and expanding global reach to support its crypto offerings.

CEO Vlad Tenev has framed these moves as central to building a “financial super app” that integrates investing, banking, and AI-powered personal finance tools for Gen Z and millennial users.

The addition of micro XRP, Solana, and Bitcoin futures aims to cater to retail traders seeking leveraged crypto exposure with smaller capital commitments, underscoring Robinhood’s push to capture market share in digital asset derivatives.
