LocalBitcoins P2P marketplace to shutter services
LocalBitcoins is set to suspend all platform functionalities from Feb. 17 onwards — except to allow customers to withdraw their Bitcoins.
Peer-to-Peer marketplace LocalBitcoins is discontinuing its services from Feb. 17, according to a Feb. 9 company statement.
New sign-ups will be suspended as of Feb. 9, followed by the suspension of trading on the platform and use of LocalBitcoins wallet on Feb. 16, according to the statement.
“[…]We have regretfully concluded that LocalBitcoins can no longer provide its Bitcoin trading service.”
Rival platform Bittylicious said it was sad to see the firm close. It continued by recounting how both firms started in “those crazy days of 2013-era #Bitcoin.”
The notice of closure follow on from rumors of insolvency made in December 2022 on social media late last year.
“Thank you for being a part of the LocalBitcoins family! It has been our honor and pleasure to serve you over the last decade.”
