Bybit

Launched 2018
Runner-up

Global Bybit fits active traders outside its named blocked markets. It does not fit users who need U.S. access, one European and global product set, or dependable bank cash-out everywhere.

Coinbase

Launched 2012
Overall winner

Coinbase fits U.S. users who fund by ACH and use Advanced, but Simple Buy costs and regional product rules require attention.

Bybit vs Coinbase Overview

This comparison covers Global Bybit and Coinbase’s non-US service, with regional fees and product permissions kept separate.

Coinbase is our overall pick for non-US spot traders who value audited corporate reporting and a shared balance between simple buying and Advanced trading. Bybit is the specialist alternative for native copy trading and a functional API demo environment.

The Coinbase review’s simple and Advanced account assessment also covers US products, but US banking benefits, asset counts and fees do not determine the winners here. Bybit EU is a separate service and is excluded.

Winners by Category

Coinbase wins overall, audited corporate reporting and ordinary maker fees in the regional fee schedule below. Bybit wins eligible MNT-paid fees, native copy trading, API practice and customer reserve-inclusion checks.

Spot Trading Fees

Coinbase is cheaper for ordinary maker orders in Brazil, India and the other countries covered by its September 16 fee announcement. Eligible MNT payment makes Bybit cheaper on the commissions shown.

Bybit Coinbase
Ordinary Maker Order

Coinbase wins by $0.10 per $1,000 maker fill under that regional fee schedule.

0.09%: $0.90 per $1,000

Ordinary 0.09%: $0.90 per $1,000
Taker Order With Bybit MNT Payment

Bybit wins conditionally by $0.25 per $1,000.

Eligible 0.075%: $0.75 per $1,000
Ordinary 0.10%: $1 per $1,000

Coinbase’s September 16 fee announcement assigns these rates to Brazil, India and other international markets covered by the announcement. They are not universal non-US prices. EU and UK entry rates are 0.25% maker and 0.50% taker, but this page does not assume that the same resident can use Global Bybit. Check the fee tier shown in your account.

Brazil provides a concrete spot-trading example at both services. That does not establish access to derivatives: Bybit restricts Brazilian users from Futures Grid. Country permission and product permission need separate checks.

For the Bybit discount, hold MNT in the Unified Trading Account and enable the relevant fee-payment setting. Its MNT program excludes API and Pro users, bot orders and copy-follower orders, among other exceptions. Do not budget those strategies at the discounted manual-spot rate. MNT can fall in value, outweighing a small commission saving.

These examples exclude spread, slippage and transfers. Simple-buy quotes use a different pricing route from an order book. A limit order that fills immediately against an existing order can incur the taker fee. Higher-volume tiers and eligible balance-based discounts also change the comparison.

Supported Cryptocurrencies

Check the actual coin, quote currency and withdrawal network you need before choosing either exchange.

Bybit publishes more than 350 global spot assets. Coinbase’s available menu varies by country. Its US asset count cannot be used to rank the non-US service against Global Bybit.

Search for the same pair in both accounts. A coin may be available for trading without every transfer network being supported. Tokens available only through a separate self-custody wallet are outside this exchange comparison.

For a large order, inspect the live spread and depth around your intended price. A longer coin list does not establish cheaper execution on the pair you actually trade.

Derivatives, Bots and Copy Trading

Bybit wins native copy trading. Coinbase also offers derivatives to eligible non-US accounts, so it is not a spot-only alternative.

Bybit Coinbase
Native Copy-Trading Workflow

Bybit wins for integrated copying where the product is permitted.

Classic follower tools and Pro pooled strategies
No native copy-trading feature in the reviewed service

Bybit wins native copy trading. Confirm local derivatives eligibility before using that advantage.

Bybit combines margin, perpetuals, options and bots with its trading account, subject to local permissions. Its copy-trading tools include Classic and Pro. Pro uses a pooled strategy with its own term and redemption rules. Classic copying and a pooled investment should not be treated as interchangeable.

Bybit’s bots include spot grids, DCA and futures strategies. A follower can receive a different fill from the lead trader, and both copied trades and bots can lose money. Review allocation limits, exit controls, trading fees and any profit share before committing funds.

Coinbase provides international perpetual trading for eligible customers. Its Deribit transition guide schedules a change for October 1, 2026, subject to readiness and approvals. As of September 28, the guide still describes options for Coinbase users as coming soon. Existing Deribit products should not be assumed to be available through every Coinbase account.

Earn and Staking

Bybit Earn and Coinbase staking have different sources of return, commissions and withdrawal conditions.

Bybit Easy Earn offers flexible and fixed formats alongside lending and on-chain products. Its flexible product requires a complete 24-hour holding period for that day’s yield to qualify. Fixed products can restrict early exits.

Coinbase staking depends on the asset and the customer’s region. Compare the same coin’s net reward after commission, the expected holding period and the time needed to unstake. US staking eligibility and membership discounts should not be assumed to apply to an international account.

A quoted annual rate is not a guaranteed return. Lending, protocol staking and structured products expose users to different risks. Choose a product only after checking where its yield comes from and how you can recover the funds.

Orders and Execution

Both provide advanced order-book trading. Their test tools and order menus do not establish a live execution-speed winner.

Bybit offers conditional orders, take-profit and stop-loss settings, post-only instructions and reduce-only controls where supported. Coinbase Advanced offers order-book trading with controls that depend on the selected market and order type.

Match the instruction to the job: a post-only order aims to rest on the book, while a market order prioritizes execution and can cross several prices. For a particular trade, compare the current spread, available depth and commission at the same order size.

Neither a demo fill nor a published API request limit proves lower live slippage. Keep limit sizing and exit rules separate from any platform’s advertised maximum position multiplier.

Deposits and Withdrawals

Compare a usable cash-in and cash-out route in the same country and currency.

Global Bybit uses local partners, cards, P2P and selected bank routes where eligible. Coinbase’s bank options depend on the country and account. Free US ACH transfers are not a non-US Coinbase advantage, and Bybit EU bank routes do not establish Global Bybit access.

Before depositing, check that your account can also withdraw to your bank. Compare the displayed fees and holds for that route in both directions. A supported card purchase does not necessarily mean withdrawals can return to the same card.

For crypto, compare the same asset, network and amount on both withdrawal screens. Allow for the receiving platform’s minimum and confirmations. A completed trade does not remove a verification or security hold. The exchange review hub provides alternatives if neither has a suitable withdrawal route.

KYC and Regional Access

Global Bybit does not serve US residents. This page therefore compares the non-US services, not Bybit against Coinbase’s US account.

Both require identity verification for ordinary exchange use. Bybit uses government ID and liveness checks, with additional verification for higher limits. Coinbase can request identity and address evidence under the rules of the customer’s regional service.

Check the entity and product terms for your country. A spot account does not automatically permit derivatives, copy trading or Earn. Global Bybit’s country restrictions also mean that Coinbase availability alone cannot establish a usable head-to-head choice.

Bybit EU is a different platform with a different product range. If you are served by that entity, use its fees and permissions rather than the Global Bybit terms on this page. Neither exchange’s identity checks guarantee an instant withdrawal or a fixed approval time.

Security and Financial Reporting

Coinbase wins audited corporate disclosure. Bybit wins customer reserve-inclusion checks. These are different forms of transparency, not interchangeable safety guarantees.

Bybit Coinbase
Audited Annual Financial Statements

Coinbase wins for audited corporate disclosure.

Reserve checks, not equivalent group financial statements
Public group accounts with an independent audit opinion
Checking Your Balance in Reserve Reports

Bybit wins this specific customer verification feature.

Check your balance’s inclusion using a Merkle proof
No customer Merkle inclusion in the reviewed service
Account Protection

Tie on these protections, not on every security feature or custody risk.

Passkeys or two-factor authentication and address controls
Passkeys or two-factor authentication and address controls

Coinbase wins financial disclosure. Bybit wins reserve-inclusion verification. Neither receives a blanket safety award.

Coinbase’s 2025 annual filing includes Deloitte’s independent audit reports. Group financial reporting gives customers more information about the business, but it does not insure an international customer’s crypto balance.

Bybit lets customers check whether their own balance is included in a reserve report. Hacken describes its reserve-check work, including Merkle validation. Such checks concern a defined snapshot and covered balances. They do not audit every liability or guarantee future withdrawals.

The FBI confirmed the approximately $1.5 billion Bybit theft in February 2025. Neither platform is risk-free. Enable passkeys or two-factor authentication and withdrawal controls, and consider whether funds not needed for trading should remain on an exchange.

Apps, APIs and Support

Bybit wins API practice because its demo supports orders and positions. Coinbase’s Advanced sandbox returns predefined responses.

Bybit Coinbase
API Trading Practice

Bybit wins for practicing the order-management workflow, not predicting live fills.

Demo funds with order and position operations
Static predefined sandbox responses
Web and Mobile Access

Tie on access channels, not app usability.

Web, iOS and Android
Web, iOS and Android
REST and WebSocket Access

Tie on these protocols. Endpoint coverage differs.

V5 account, market and trading endpoints
Advanced account, market and trading endpoints
24/7 Chat

Tie on chat hours. Channel availability does not measure resolution quality.

24/7 chat and tickets
24/7 chat, with phone support also available

Bybit wins for API trading practice. Web, mobile access and published chat hours are ties.

The Bybit demo API supports demo balances, placing and canceling orders, and position records, although not every live endpoint is available. The Coinbase Advanced sandbox is useful for checking request and response formats, but its mocked replies are not a simulated matching engine.

For live integrations, restrict key permissions and use IP allowlisting where appropriate. Bybit’s eligible MNT discount excludes API users, so calculate API strategy costs using the applicable undiscounted or account-tier schedule.

Both publish round-the-clock chat access. Coinbase also offers phone support. Neither stated channel availability nor a paid priority queue proves how quickly an individual case will be resolved.

Coinbase also has the lower ordinary maker fee in Brazil, India and the other countries covered by its September 16 fee announcement. Bybit’s eligible MNT-paid spot rates can beat those commissions, but they require token exposure and do not apply to API, bot or copy-follower orders.

The review cards link to each platform’s broader assessment, including regional products. Coinbase’s US banking benefits are not part of this non-US decision. Confirm that your country, intended product and withdrawal route qualify before funding either account.
