Joe Biden
Joe Biden Bio
Joe Biden, byname of Joseph Robinette Biden Jr., is an American politician and the 46th and current president of the United States. He represented Delaware in the US Senate from 1973 to 2009 and is a Democrat who previously served as President Barack Obama’s 47th vice president from 2009 to 2017.
Joe Biden is the first of four children of Catherine Eugenia Finnegan Biden and Joseph Robinette Biden, Sr. who was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania. The Biden family relocated to Claymont, Delaware, in 1953. President Biden graduated from the University of Delaware and Syracuse Law School and served on the New Castle County Council.
Biden returned to Delaware to practice law after earning his law degree, but he soon switched to politics, serving on the New Castle county council from 1970 to 1972. He was elected to the U.S. Senate in 1972 at the age of 29, becoming the fifth youngest senator in history.
On April 25, 2019, Biden announced his candidacy for President of the United States. Biden’s candidacy was built from the beginning around 3 pillars: the battle for the soul of our nation, the need to rebuild our middle class — the backbone of our country, and a call for unity, to act as One America. It was a message that would only gain more resonance in 2020 as we confront a pandemic, an economic crisis, urgent calls for racial justice, and the existential threat of climate change.
