Powerloom Protocol is a decentralized Web3 data network designed to provide reliable, verifiable, and queryable blockchain data for applications, analytics platforms, dashboards, agents, bots, and decentralized finance tools. The protocol was built to turn raw onchain activity into consensus-backed datasets that developers could use without operating their own indexing and verification infrastructure.

Powerloom Protocol, publicly associated with Powerloom Network (BVI) Ltd., positioned itself as a composable data network for Web3. Its infrastructure coordinated snapshotter nodes, validators, data markets, and consumers to observe smart contract activity, produce structured snapshots, validate outputs, and make data available through APIs and application tooling.

The project was especially relevant to builders working with DeFi, onchain analytics, token dashboards, trading alerts, autonomous agents, and market intelligence products. Its early production focus included data markets for Ethereum-based protocols, including Uniswap activity on Ethereum.

History and Background

Powerloom was developed by founders Swaroop Hegde and Anomit Ghosh after earlier work on RPC infrastructure and Web3 developer tools. The project began taking shape around 2020 with the goal of replacing reliance on centralized blockchain data providers with decentralized, peer-validated data infrastructure.

In October 2021, Powerloom announced a $3.1 million funding round led by Blockchain Capital. Other participants included Fenbushi Filecoin Eco Fund, CMS Holdings, Protocol Labs, Divergence, Youbi Capital, Double Peak Group, Altonomy, Longhash, KNS Group, The LAO, and angel investors from the DeFi and blockchain infrastructure sectors.

Technology and Features

Powerloom’s architecture was built around composable datasets. Snapshotter nodes captured state transitions, event emissions, and derived smart contract outputs. Validators reviewed submissions, finalized canonical data, and created proof paths that consumers could verify against onchain references.

The protocol’s mainnet launched in January 2025, with the first epoch released on January 9, 2025. Its infrastructure used a Layer 2 architecture based on OP Stack and EigenDA, and was designed to support multiple data markets, including Uniswap V2, Uniswap V3, Aave V3, and other future data products.

Use Cases and Market Position

Powerloom was built for applications that need trustworthy blockchain data without depending only on hosted indexers. Common use cases included DeFi analytics, price feeds, token monitoring, liquidity dashboards, whale alerts, market intelligence, trading bots, prediction markets, and agent workflows.

The project competed in the broader onchain data infrastructure market alongside indexers, analytics APIs, oracle networks, decentralized query protocols, and data availability systems. Its differentiation was based on peer validation, consensus-backed datasets, IPFS-linked artifacts, and configurable data markets.

Wind-Down Status

In June 2026, Powerloom’s founders announced an orderly wind-down of the protocol after reviewing the project’s operating path, ecosystem demand, and available resources. The announcement stated that the project had advanced through testnet, mainnet, snapshotter participation, data markets, validator infrastructure, and developer-facing products, but that continuing operations was no longer responsible under the circumstances.

Powerloom’s official timeline states that epoch release and reward accrual stopped on June 16, 2026, hosted APIs and BDS services went offline the same day, and the mint dashboard for claims, unstaking, and node burns went offline on July 16, 2026. The Powerloom chain was scheduled for permanent shutdown on July 21, 2026 at 6:00 AM UTC, after which contracts and state on the Powerloom chain would become inaccessible.

Risks and Considerations

Powerloom’s wind-down materially changes how the protocol should be evaluated. Developers, node operators, users, and token holders should rely only on official channels for final instructions and avoid impersonators, fake airdrops, private claim links, or unofficial migration requests. From a directory perspective, Powerloom remains notable as a Web3 data infrastructure project, but it should be treated as a winding-down protocol rather than an active data network.
