Brendan Blumer Bio
Based in Hong Kong, Brendan Blumer is an American entrepreneur, executive, and investor who currently serves as the CEO of Block.one. A native of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Blumer discovered his knack for digital innovation early on. At the age of 15, he founded Gamecliff, a website that offered virtual assets like characters, weapons, and houses for multiplayer online role-playing games such as EverQuest and World of Warcraft.
Making Moves in Asia
In 2005, Gamecliff caught the attention of IGE, which acquired the startup and relocated its operations to Hong Kong. Not one to rest on his laurels, Blumer founded The Accounts Network in 2007, specializing in the sale of in-game avatars for MMORPGs.
Diversifying Into Real Estate and Beyond
Venturing beyond gaming, Blumer launched Okay.com in 2010. The platform aimed to facilitate data sharing among real estate brokers in Asia and later merged with Asia Pacific Properties. He also founded ii5 in 2013, a startup focused on real estate listings in India.
The Birth of Block.one and EOS
In 2016, a fateful meeting with software programmer Dan Larimer led to the formation of Block.one in March 2017. Specializing in high-performance blockchain technologies, the duo announced their first project, EOS, in May 2017. Though critics have questioned the year-long EOS initial coin offering (ICO) for its aggressive fundraising approach, the company has continued to make headlines.
Recognition and Accolades
Blumer’s influence in the crypto space hasn’t gone unnoticed. In February 2018, Forbes recognized him as one of “The Richest People in Cryptocurrency,” cementing his standing as a key figure in the blockchain and crypto ecosystem.
From his teenage years in Iowa to his current role as a blockchain magnate, Brendan Blumer has consistently demonstrated an ability to spot trends and capitalize on them, making him one of the most dynamic and influential individuals in both gaming and cryptocurrency landscapes.
